Intel and QuTech have a long-standing collaboration, having worked together intensively on quantum research, with a focus on creating a working and scalable quantum computer, since 2015. This partnership—combining Intel’s technological expertise with QuTech’s pioneering quantum science—has achieved several milestones, including the creation of the first industrially manufactured qubit within Intel’s chip facilities, published in Nature Electronics (2022).

The current collaboration has been extended beyond 2025 and now focuses on advancing cryogenic CMOS (cryo-CMOS) technology, a promising solution for scalable quantum computing. This effort builds on past successes like Intel’s Horse Ridge cryogenic chip, which demonstrated efficient qubit control at low temperatures while addressing the scalability challenge of the wiring bottleneck.

Lead scientist Fabio Sebastiano emphasizes the synergy between QuTech’s cryogenic expertise and Intel’s cutting-edge fabrication capabilities as key to pushing the boundaries of quantum scalability.
